Lebanon Inflation Rate Rises in August

The annual inflation rate in Lebanon rose to 16.7% in August 2026 from a five-month low of 15.7% in the previous month. Prices increased at a faster pace in housing and utilities (17.9% vs 14.5% in July), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (9.6% vs 6.8%), transportation (31.7% vs 27.6%), recreation, amusement and culture (45.7% vs 43.2%), health (7.4% vs 7.3%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.1% vs 7.0%), while remaining unchanged in education (at 35.72%). Meanwhile, inflation eased in food and non-alcoholic beverages (11.7% vs 14.5%), clothing and footwear (1.2% vs 1.7%), restaurants and hotels (14.3% vs 14.6%), and miscellaneous goods and services (15.7% vs 16.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 1.4%, rebounding from a 0.03% decline in July.

The annual inflation rate in Lebanon slowed to 15.7% in July 2026 from 17.3% in the previous month. It marked the lowest reading since February, as price increases eased across major categories, particularly food and non-alcoholic beverages (14.5% vs 18.0% in June), housing and utilities (14.5% vs 17.1%), and transport (27.6% vs 29.4%). Inflation also moderated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.0% vs 8.4%), clothing and footwear (1.7% vs 6.6%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (6.8% vs 7.1%), and restaurants and hotels (14.6% vs 16.3%). On the other hand, price growth accelerated for health (7.3% vs 2.8%), recreation, amusement and culture (43.2% vs 42.6%), and miscellaneous goods and services (16.3% vs 14.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.03%, following a 0.75% decline in June and marking a second consecutive month of deflation.

The annual inflation rate in Lebanon rose to 17.3% in June 2026, slowing from 19.0% in the previous month and marking the lowest reading since March. Price growth eased for housing and utilities (17.1% vs 21.6% in May), transportation (29.4% vs 37.8%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (8.4% vs 8.6%), and recreation, amusement, and culture (42.6% vs 48.4%). Meanwhile, costs continued to increase for food and non-alcoholic beverages (18.0% vs 17.9%), health (2.8% vs 2.7%), clothing and footwear (6.6% vs 5.7%), restaurants and hotels (16.3% vs 15.6%), and miscellaneous goods and services (14.9% vs 14.6%). Prices were unchanged for furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (7.1%) and education (35.7%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.8%, reversing a 0.5% increase in the previous month.
