Lebanon Inflation Rate at 6.52 percent  
The annual inflation rate in Lebanon increased to 6.5 percent in May of 2018 from 5.8 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since June of 2013, as prices rose faster for housing & utilities (6.4 percent vs 5.8 percent in April); food & non-alcoholic beverages (6 percent vs 3.9 percent); transport (9.9 percent vs 8.1 percent) and clothing & footwear (13.8 percent vs 12.7 percent). Meanwhile, inflation was steady for education (4.2 percent, the same as in April); communication (1 percent); restaurants & hotels (3.3 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (3 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for health (7.4 percent vs 8.8 percent); furniture & household equipment (4.6 percent vs 5.2 percent); recreation & culture (7.9 percent vs 8 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (1.9 percent vs 2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.6 percent from 0.5 percent in April.

Lebanon PMI at 46.40  
The BLOM Lebanon PMI came in at 46.4 in May 2018, up slightly from 46.2 in the previous month. In spite of the small improvement, the reading continued to reflect deterioration in business conditions across private sector economy. Output and new orders declined sharply, amid ongoing security issues, cash flow problems and the political instability which affected mainly domestic demand. Meantime, employment dropped for the third straight month but at a modest pace. On the price front, input costs rose only marginally and average selling prices decreased, but a slightly slower pace. Looking ahead, companies remained pessimistic, as expectations improved a bit since April but they were still the second-lowest in the past eleven months.
