Greece Jobless Rate Eases in April

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Greece eased to 9.5% in April 2026 from an upwardly revised 10.4% in the previous month, marking the lowest level since January.

The number of unemployed individuals fell by 49.5 thousand from a month earlier to 452.3 thousand but increased by 26.6 thousand year-on-year.

Unemployment remained significantly higher among women than men, with the rate at 13.7% for women and 5.9% for men.

Meanwhile, the number of people outside the labour force, those under 75 who are neither employed nor actively seeking work rose by 52 thousand month-on-month to 2,950 thousand but declined by 57.1 thousand year-on-year.

In addition, employment fell by 9.9 thousand from the prior month to 4,523 thousand.

Greece’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 9% in March 2026, following an upwardly revised 8.6% gain in the previous month. This marked the highest reading in nine months, as the number of unemployed individuals increased by 19.1 thousand month-on-month, bringing the total to 436.1 thousand. Unemployment among women remained significantly higher than among men, standing at 11.5% compared to 6.9%. Meanwhile the number of people outside the labour force, those under 75 who are neither employed nor seeking work, decreased by 26.9 thousand to 2,876.8 thousand. On the other hand, employment rose by 3.7 thousand, lifting the total number of employed individuals to around 4,412.4 thousand.

Greece’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 8.5% in February 2026, following an upwardly revised 7.9% in the previous two months. This marked the highest reading since October 2025, as the number of unemployed individuals climbed by 32 thousand month-on-month, bringing the total to 410.5 thousand. Unemployment among women remained significantly higher than among men, standing at 11.3% compared to 6.2%. Meanwhile, the number of people outside the labour force, those under 75 who are neither employed nor seeking work, fell by 45 thousand to 2,906.8 thousand. On the other hand, employment increased by 9 thousand, lifting the total number of employed individuals to around 4,412.2 thousand.
