Greece Jobless Rate Rises to 8.0%

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Greece rose to 8.0% in June 2026, following a downwardly revised 7.8% growth in the previous month.

The number of unemployed individuals increased by 12.4 thousand month-on-month to 381.8 thousand but decreased by 58.3 thousand individuals in the same month last year.

Unemployment remained significantly higher among women than men, with rates of 10.4% for women and 6.0% for men.

Meanwhile, the number of people outside the labour force, those under 75 who are neither employed nor actively seeking employment, fell by 33.0 thousand a month earlier and declined 37.0 thousand year-on-year.

The total number of employed persons grew by 16.4 thousand from the prior month to 4,389.2 thousand.

Greece Jobless Rate Hits Over 17-Year Low
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Greece fell to 8.1% in May 2026 from a downwardly revised 9.1% in the previous month, marking the lowest level since November 2008. The number of unemployed individuals fell by 48.0 thousand from a month earlier to an over seventeen-year low of 383.7 thousand and decreased by 29.6 thousand year-on-year. Unemployment remained significantly higher among women than men, with rates of 11.7% for women and 5.0% for men. Meanwhile, the number of people outside the labour force, those under 75 who are neither employed nor actively seeking work, rose by 25.1 thousand month-on-month to 2,980 thousand but declined by 24.6 thousand year-on-year. The total number of employed persons increased by 18.7 thousand from the prior month to 4,353 thousand.

Greece Jobless Rate Eases in April
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Greece eased to 9.5% in April 2026 from an upwardly revised 10.4% in the previous month, marking the lowest level since January. The number of unemployed individuals fell by 49.5 thousand from a month earlier to 452.3 thousand but increased by 26.6 thousand year-on-year. Unemployment remained significantly higher among women than men, with the rate at 13.7% for women and 5.9% for men. Meanwhile, the number of people outside the labour force, those under 75 who are neither employed nor actively seeking work rose by 52 thousand month-on-month to 2,950 thousand but declined by 57.1 thousand year-on-year. In addition, employment fell by 9.9 thousand from the prior month to 4,523 thousand.
