The CAC 40 edged down around 7,910 this Friday for the first session of March, after the publication of inflation figures in the euro zone, which showed a deceleration in February, but less strong than expected.
Traders were also assessing a slew of PMI surveys from several countries, including European economies.
On the domestic data front, final figures showed French manufacturing activity contracted slightly less than previously thought in February.
The focus now turns to anticipated comments from several Fed officials due later in the day, after latest data suggested easing US price pressures.
On the corporate side, Saint Gobain led the losses with a nearly 5% decline, after announcing that challenging market conditions dragged its 2023 annual sales down 6.4%.
By contrast, the top advancers were Teleperformance and Edenred, adding 1.7% and 1.6%, respectively.
The CAC 40 is likely to book a 0.7% loss this week.
