The annual inflation rate in Greece fell to 3.4% in July 2026, a five-month low, from 4.4% in June.

Prices slowed for housing & utilities (8.8% vs 10.6%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.4% vs 2.7%), restaurants & hotels (5.8% vs 7.7%), recreation & culture (1.3% vs 1.7%), and furnishings & household equipment (0.4% vs 0.5%).

Also, inflation was steady for health (at 1.1%) and education (at 2.8%).

On the other hand, cost accelerated for transport (7.4% vs 7.2%) and clothing & footwear (3.3% vs 0.5%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 1.4%, after being flat in June.

Greece Inflation Rate at 3-Month Low
The inflation rate in Greece rose by 4.4% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from 5.2% in the previous month. This marked the slowest growth in three months as costs moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.7% vs 3.5% in April), housing utilities (10.6% vs 11.6%), health (1.1% vs 1.2%), transportation (7.2% vs 11.5%), and restaurants and hotels (7.7% vs 8.5%). Additionally, price growth remained steady for education (at 2.8%). On the other hand, prices increased for miscellaneous goods and services (1.1% vs 0.9%), while costs recovered for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.3% vs -0.1%) and clothing and footwear (0.5% vs -0.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices recorded a flat reading in May, unchanged from the preceding period. Meanwhile, the EU-harmonised annual inflation rate rose 3.9%, slowing from 4.9% in April.

Greece Inflation Eases Slightly in May
The annual inflation rate in Greece edged down to 5.2% in May 2026 from 5.4% in the prior month. Price growth slowed in housing and utilities (11.6% vs 13.8% in April), food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.5% vs 4.4%). Decreases were also observed in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (-0.1% vs 1.4%), clothing and footwear (-0.9% vs 2.0%), furnishings and household equipment (-0.1% vs 0.1%), and information and communication (-2.7% vs -2.2%). Meanwhile, inflation accelerated for transport (11.5% vs 10.0%), restaurants and accommodation (8.5% vs 6.1%), recreation and culture (1.4% vs 1.0%), while remained steady for education (at 2.8%) and health (at 1.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were unchanged after rising 1.5% in the previous month. Meanwhile, the EU-harmonised annual inflation rate rose to 4.9%, the highest since March 2023, and up from 4.6% previously.
