Ecuador's trade surplus narrowed to $450.43 million in May 2026 from a surplus of $498.39 million in the same month a year earlier.
Imports increased 16.2% to $3,248 million, driven by higher purchases of fuels and lubricants (63%) and capital goods (16%), namely industrial goods (17%).
Meanwhile, exports rose at a slower pace of 12.3% to $3,698 million, supported by higher oil exports (76%) and higher shipments of crude oil (76%), with additional support from non-traditional goods by 6%, mainly tobacco (45%).
