Cyprus’ trade deficit widened to EUR 680.5 million in August 2026 from EUR 597.3 million in the same month of the previous year, according to preliminary estimates.
Imports rose by 14.9% year-on-year to EUR 1,324.1 million, driven by higher purchases from non-EU countries, which surged (44.8% at 754.9 million), while imports from other EU member states declined (-9.7% at EUR 569.2 million).
Imports included the transfer of economic ownership of vessels valued at EUR 1.1 million, down from EUR 55.0 million a year earlier.
Meanwhile, exports increased by 17.9% to EUR 643.5 million, supported by higher shipments to both EU member states, which rose (40.5% to EUR 106.8 million), and non-EU countries, which climbed to 14.2% of EUR 536.7 million.
Vessel and aircraft transfers amounted to EUR 20.8 million, down from EUR 54.3 million a year earlier.
For the January–August period, the trade deficit widened to EUR 6,303.3 million from EUR 5,483.5 million in the same period of 2025.
