Consumer prices in Cyprus declined by 0.1% year-on-year in April 2018, easing from a 0.5% fall in the previous month. Prices dropped at a softer pace for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-0.2% from -2.8% in March), housing & utilities (-0.3% from -0.9%), clothing & footwear (-1.7 from -3.1%), furniture & household equipment (-1.7% from -2.3%) and communication (-0.4% from -0.5%). Prices also fell for miscellaneous goods & services (-1.2% from -0.4%) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (-2%, the same as in March). Additionally, prices rose less for transport (1.8% from 2.9%), restaurant & hotels (1% from 1.1%) and healthcare (0.2% from 0.4%). Meanwhile, inflation was steady for education (2.3%, the same as in March). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up by 0.6%, slightly below the 0.7% increase in March.

Industrial production in Cyprus increased 5.7 percent year-on-year in February of 2018, easing from a downwardly revised 9.1 percent rise in the previous month. It was the smallest increase in industrial activity since August 2017. The manufacturing sector slowed (10.6 percent vs 16.5 percent in January), mainly due to production of non-metallic mineral products (3.2 percent vs 25.6 percent); chemicals & pharmaceuticals (24.8 percent vs 35.1 percent); basic metals & fabricated metal products (15.8 percent vs 27.8 percent); wood & products of wood (30.6 percent vs 53.3 percent) and rubber & plastics (13.9 percent vs 21.1 percent). In addition, output went up at a slower pace for water supply & materials recovery (1.3 percent vs 3.4 percent). Meanwhile, mining activity fell (-9.5 percent vs 0 percent) and electricity supply shrank further (-7.6 percent vs -7.1 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production dropped 0.8 percent in February, following a 9.3 percent decrease in January.
