Consumer prices in Cyprus declined 0.4 percent from a year earlier in September 2017, following a 0.2 percent drop in the previous month. It is the third month of deflation, as prices dropped for clothing and footwear (-1.01 percent from 0.43 percent in August); food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.82 percent from -3.41 percent); furnishings, household equipment and supplies (-2.01 from -2.14 percent); recreation and culture (-0.14 percent from -0.67 percent) and miscellaneous goods and services (-1.04 percent from -1.25 percent). In addition, inflation slowed for housing utilities (2.38 percent from 4.04 percent) and transport (0.60 percent from 1.19 percent). On the other hand, prices rose faster for restaurants and hotels (1.02 percent from 1 percent) and education (0.57 percent from 0.52 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.3 percent.

Meanwhile, sales of electrical goods and furniture advanced faster (12.2 percent vs 9.6 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales grew 5.7 percent, compared to a downwardly revised 5.3 percent in June. For the January to July period, retail trade rose 4.8 percent.
