Cyprus Retail Sales YoY at 0.80 percent  
Retail sales in Cyprus increased 0.8 percent year-on-year in April of 2017, easing from an upwardly revised 3.6 percent rise in the previous month. It is the smallest gain in retail trade since July last year, as sales went up at a slower pace for computer equipment, books and other (9.8 percent vs 9.9 percent in March); electrical goods and furniture (10.7 percent vs 18.6 percent) and textiles, clothing and footwear (1.9 percent vs 8.2 percent). In addition, sales declined for automotive fuel (-3.8 percent vs 4.7 percent) and food (-1.2 percent vs -0.7 percent).

Main contributors to the growth were construction (21 percent from 10.5 percent in Q4 of 2016); manufacturing (5.8 percent from 5.1 percent); mining and water supply; sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities (5.8 percent from 5.1 percent) and real estate activities (3.6 percent from 2.6 percent). On a quarterly basis, GDP advanced 0.6 percent compared to a 0.7 percent growth in the previous period.
