Bosnia and Herzegovina Inflation at 3-Month High

The annual inflation rate in Bosnia and Herzegovina rose to 4.9% in August 2026 from 3.6% in the previous month, marking the highest reading in three months. Price growth accelerated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.9% vs 3.0% in July), housing and utilities (11.3% vs 10.8%), transport (22.9% vs 13.0%), and recreation and culture (3.9% vs 3.6%). Conversely, inflation eased for furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (1.9% vs 2.8%), health (5.5% vs 5.9%), and other goods and services (1.4% vs 1.6%). Inflation was unchanged for communication (3.1%), education (1.8%), and restaurants and hotels (4.8%), while deflation eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.9% vs -1.1%) but deepened for clothing and footwear (-8.7% vs -7.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.1% in August, rebounding from a 0.4% fall in July, ending a three-month streak of monthly deflation.

The annual inflation rate in Bosnia and Herzegovina eased to 3.6% in July 2026 from 4.2% in the previous month, marking the lowest level since February. Prices continued to decline for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-1.1% vs -0.5% in June) and clothing and footwear (-7.8% vs -7.2%). At the same time, inflation moderated across several categories, including alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.0% vs 3.4%), transport (13.0% vs 17.5%), communication (3.1% vs 3.2%), restaurants and hotels (4.8% vs 4.9%), and miscellaneous goods and services (1.7% vs 2.8%). Meanwhile, costs increased faster for housing and utilities (10.7% vs 10.5%), furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance (2.7% vs 1.1%), health (5.9% vs 5.7%), and recreation and culture (3.6% vs 3.0%), while education costs remained unchanged at 1.8%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.4% in July, easing from a 1.1% drop in June.

At the same time, inflation eased across several categories, including alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.4% vs 3.5%), housing and utilities (10.5% vs 11.5%), furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance (1.1% vs 1.6%), transport (17.5% vs 23.7%), recreation and culture (3.0% vs 3.4%), education (1.8% vs 3.4%), restaurants and hotels (4.9% vs 5.6%), and other goods and services (1.8% vs 2.3%). Meanwhile, inflation held steady for communication at 3.3%, while health inflation edged up (5.7% vs 5.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 1.1% in June, following a 0.9% drop in May, marking a second consecutive contraction after eight straight months of increases.
