Belgium Construction Output Accelerates in August

Construction output in Belgium fell 4.8% year-on-year in November 2025, following an upwardly revised 0.8% drop in the previous month. This marked the steepest decrease in construction activity since March, driven by declines across all subsectors, including building construction (-4.9% vs -1.1% in October), civil engineering (-4.2% vs. -2.9%), and specialized construction activities (-5.3% vs. 0.2%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction activity slipped 0.3% in November, reversing a 0.3% gain in the previous month.

Construction output in Belgium fell 0.5% year-on-year in October 2025, marking the first decline in five months after stagnating in September. The drop was driven by a further contraction in civil engineering (-2.6% vs. -2.0% in September), while growth in specialized construction activities slowed (0.4% vs. 1.0%). In contrast, the decline in building construction moderated (-0.8% vs. -2.2%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction activity edged up 0.4% in October, rebounding from a 1.2% fall in the previous month.

Belgium’s construction output stalled year-on-year in September 2025, following an upwardly revised 7.3% growth in the previous month. The stagnation was mainly due to lower output in building construction (-2.5% vs 6.3% in August) and civil engineering (-2.3% vs 6.1%). Additionally, production growth slowed significantly for specialized construction activities (1.3% vs 7.8%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction activity fell by 1.1% in September, easing from a 1.6% drop in the preceding period.
