Argentina Jobless Rate Rises to 2021 Highs

Argentina's unemployment rate rose to 7.9% in the first quarter of 2025, up from 6.4% in the previous period and well above the estimated 6.3% marking its highest level since Q3 2021.

Meanwhile, the employment rate decreased to 44.4% from 45.7% in the prior quarter, as well as the labor force participation rate up to 48.2% from 48.8%.

Argentina Unemployment Rate Falls in Q3
Argentina’s unemployment rate eased to 6.6% in the third quarter of 2025, down from 7.6% in the previous period and marking the lowest level since Q4 2024. Joblessness stood at 7.4% for women and 5.9% for men. Regionally, unemployment was highest in the Pampeana region (7.5%) and Greater Buenos Aires (6.8%). Among the unemployed, 69.5% had completed at most secondary education, while 30.6% had some tertiary or university education. Regarding job-search duration, 71.1% had been seeking work for up to 12 months, while 28.8% had been unemployed for more than one year. Meanwhile, the employment rate edged down to 45.4% from 44.5%, while the labor force participation rate rose to 48.6% from 48.1%.

Argentina's unemployment rate eased to 7.6% in the second quarter of 2025, down from the highest level since Q3 2021 of 7.9% in the previous period. Meanwhile, the employment rate increased to 44.5% from 44.4% in the prior quarter, while the labor force participation rate fell to 48.1% from 48.2%.
