Argentina has temporarily scrapped export taxes on aluminum, steel, and related products until the end of 2025, according to a resolution published in the official gazette.
The measure, effective Wednesday, September 9, applies to exports headed to countries that currently impose import tariffs of at least 45% on such goods.
It will remain in force until December 31, 2025, or until those countries lower their tariffs below 45%, whichever comes first.
The decree said the move aims to “strengthen export capacity and make one of the country’s productive sectors more competitive,” reflecting efforts to promote greater trade openness.
The decision follows a similar short-lived measure in September, when Argentina suspended export taxes on soy, corn, wheat, and their derivatives—including biodiesel—to boost exports and shore up the peso, though that policy lasted less than a week.
