Tunisia Q2 GDP Annual Growth Weakest in 5 Quarters

Tunisia’s economy advanced by 2.3% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, slowing from 2.6% expansion in the first quarter.

It was the weakest growth since the first quarter of 2025, mainly supported by the services sector, which grew 1.9%, despite softer activity in transport services (1.7% vs. 2.2% in Q1), while information and communication accelerated slightly (3.5% vs 3.4%).

Manufacturing output increased by 0.9%, primarily driven by rises in oil refining (19.2% vs 572.9%) and accommodation and dining (4.6% vs 4.1%).

On the other hand, electricity and gas distribution and generation (-0.5% vs 5.8%) and the mining sector (-9.6% vs 3.5%) both declined after growing in the previous quarter.

Meanwhile, contractions in oil and natural gas extraction eased (-1.1% vs -6.7%).

Compared with the previous quarter, Tunisia’s economy expanded by 1.4% in Q2 2026, after stalling in the previous quarter, marking the fastest increase in a year.

Tunisia’s economy expanded by 2.6% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, easing from 2.7% growth in the fourth quarter of 2025. Growth was driven mainly by the services sector, which rose 2.2%, supported by stronger activity in information and communication (4.1% versus 3.7%) and transport services (1.7% versus 0.2%). Manufacturing output increased by 3.1%, mainly due to food processing industries (15.1% versus 6.1%). Meanwhile, contractions in oil and natural gas extraction eased (-4.8% versus -13.8%) while activity slowed in electricity and gas distribution and generation (5.7% versus 10.6%) and in the mining sector (3.7% versus 12.8%). Compared with the previous quarter, Tunisia’s economy contracted by 0.3% in Q1 2026, reversing a 1% gain in the previous quarter.

Tunisia GDP Annual Growth Advances to 2.7% in Q4
Tunisia’s GDP grew 2.7% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2025, accelerating from a 2.4% increase in the previous three-month period. Growth strengthened in agriculture, forestry, and fishing (12.3% vs 11.9% in Q3), construction (4.1% vs 2.1%), manufacture of other non-metallic products (4.2% vs 1.7%), production and distribution of gas (10.6% vs 5.8%), trade and repair services (2.1% vs 1.5%), accommodation and catering (7.2% vs 7.1%), and the information and communication sector (3.7% vs 2.7%). Meanwhile, output growth slowed in the mining sector (12.8% vs 31.7%), chemical industries (1.3% vs 3.4%), and transport and storage (0.2% vs 0.3%). On a quarterly basis, GDP advanced 1.0% after showing no growth in the previous quarter. For the full year 2025, Tunisia's economy expanded 2.5%.
