Pakistan Wholesale Inflation at 3-Month High

Wholesale price inflation in Pakistan rose to 11.82% year-on-year in August 2026 from 9.43% in the previous month, marking the strongest growth in three months.

Costs increased for agriculture, forestry, and fishery (9.49% vs 7.61% in July), other transportable goods (26.80% vs 20.44%), and food, beverages, tobacco, textiles, and leather products (8.10% vs 7.40%), driven largely by stronger inflation for food, beverages, and tobacco (10.51% vs 9.40%), while price growth for textiles and leather products remained steady at 19.21%.

Moreover, prices rebounded for ores, minerals, electricity, gas, and water (1.87% vs -0.39%).

Meanwhile, price growth slowed for metal products, machinery, and equipment (5.16% vs 6.19%).

On a monthly basis, wholesale prices rose by 2.0% in August, following a flat reading in the preceding month.

Wholesale price inflation in Pakistan eased to 9.43% year-on-year in July 2026 from 10.69% in the previous month, marking the lowest reading since March. Costs declined for ores, minerals, electricity, gas, and water (-0.39% vs 5.69% in June), while price growth moderated for other transportable goods (20.44% vs 27.96%). Meanwhile, inflation accelerated for agriculture, forestry, and fishery (7.61% vs 1.80%), food, beverages, tobacco, textiles, and leather products (7.40% vs 7.14%), driven mainly by food products, beverages, and tobacco (9.40% vs 9.0%). Price growth also picked up for metal products, machinery, and equipment (6.19% vs 5.67%). On a monthly basis, wholesale prices were unchanged in July after falling 1.21% in the previous month.

Pakistan Wholesale Inflation Slows
Pakistan's wholesale price inflation eased to 10.7% year-on-year in June 2026 from 12.7% in May. The slowdown was largely driven by softer price growth for ores, minerals, electricity, gas and water (5.7% vs. 8.5%). Meanwhile, inflation accelerated for food, beverages, tobacco, textiles and leather products (7.1% vs. 6.9%), led by leather products (19.2% vs. 16.1%). Price growth also picked up for agriculture, forestry and fishery products (1.8% vs. 1.0%) and metal products, machinery and equipment (5.7% vs. 5.2%). On a monthly basis, wholesale prices fell 1.2% in June, following a 0.8% decline in May.
