Indonesia Forex Reserves Largest in 7 Months
Indonesia·Foreign Exchange Reserves

Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserves slightly increased to USD 146.8 billion in October from USD 146.3 billion in the previous month. It was the highest level of foreign exchange reserves since March, supported by government external loan withdrawals and tax and service revenues. However, the increase was partly offset by repayments of maturing government foreign debt and Bank Indonesia’s rupiah stabilization measures in response to persistent uncertainty in global financial markets. The reserve assets were equivalent to 5.3 months of imports, or 5.2 months of imports and government external debt servicing, well above the international adequacy benchmark of around three months of imports. Looking ahead, Bank Indonesia expects external sector resilience to remain solid, supported by ample foreign exchange reserves and sustained foreign capital inflows.

India·Foreign Exchange Reserves

India’s foreign exchange reserves fell for a fourth consecutive week to $734.6 billion as of October 2, 2026, according to a footnote to Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra’s monetary policy statement. Reserves have declined from their recent peak of $785.71 billion on September 4, a drop of around $50 billion in less than a month. The drawdown reflects RBI intervention in the foreign-exchange market, including dollar sales to smooth the rupee’s decline and sell/buy FX swaps aimed at absorbing surplus liquidity. Despite the central bank’s support, including its first rate hike since 2023 in October, the rupee has continued to weaken, pressured by elevated oil prices, rising US Treasury yields and increased foreign equity outflows.
