The New Caledonia Interest Rate is the policy rate set by the Institut d’Émission d’Outre-Mer (IEOM) for the Pacific franc zone, reflecting the central bank’s monetary policy stance and influencing liquidity and credit conditions in New Caledonia, French Polynesia, and Wallis and Futuna. The series reports the IEOM rediscount rate (Taux de réescompte), the key rate used in the IEOM’s monetary policy framework. Because the CFP franc has a fixed exchange rate against the euro, IEOM monetary policy generally moves in tandem with that of the Eurosystem. As a result, changes in ECB policy rates typically influence the direction of the IEOM’s key rates, although the IEOM sets its rates based on monetary policy objectives for the CFP franc zone and economic and financial conditions in its territories.
