Macedonia Producer Inflation Hits 1½-Year High

The annual producer inflation rate in North Macedonia rose to 7.1% in August 2026 from 6.5% in the previous month, reaching its highest level since February 2025.

Price growth accelerated for intermediate goods excluding energy (6.2% vs 5.3% in July), capital goods (11.9% vs 10.9%), and consumer goods (4.0% vs 3.9%), both durable (4.4% vs 3.8%) and non-durable (4.0% vs 3.9%).

Conversely, energy prices eased (10.2% vs 11.3%).

By sector and division, costs rose for manufacturing (6.3% vs 5.9%), particularly for food products, textiles, paper and paper products, basic pharmaceutical products and preparations, and machinery and equipment.

Costs also climbed in mining and quarrying (21.7% vs 16.4%).

Meanwhile, inflation moderated in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (10.5% vs 11.7%), while it held steady in water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation services at 7.4%.

On a monthly basis, producer prices edged up 0.4% in August after remaining flat in July.

Prices increased for energy (11.3% vs 10.9% in June), intermediate goods excluding energy (5.3% vs 4.7%), capital goods (10.9% vs 10.6%), and consumer goods (3.9% vs 3.7%), particularly non-durable goods (3.9% vs. 3.7%), while price growth for durable goods moderated (3.8% vs 4.5%). By sector and division, costs increased in manufacturing (5.9% vs 5.2%), driven by notable gains in food products (1.8% vs 0.5%) and pharmaceuticals (5.1% vs 3.8%). Moreover, costs also rose for electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (11.7% vs 11.2%), while price growth remained unchanged for water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation services (at 7.4%). Meanwhile, price growth slowed in mining and quarrying (16.4% vs 24.5%). On a monthly basis, producer prices were unchanged in July, following a 0.5% increase in June.

The annual producer inflation rate in North Macedonia rose to 6.2% in June 2026 from a 6.0% increase in the previous month, marking the highest level since March 2025. Price growth continued for energy (10.9% vs 10.2% in May), intermediate goods excluding energy (4.7% vs 4.5%), and consumer goods (3.7% vs 3.0%), particularly non-durable goods (3.7% vs 2.9%). Meanwhile, prices eased for capital goods (10.6% vs 11.2%). By sectors and divisions, costs edged up in manufacturing (5.2% vs 5.1%), while inflation rose for mining and quarrying (24.5% vs 23.2%), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (11.2% vs 10.7%), and water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services (7.4% vs 6.4%). On a monthly basis, producer prices edged up 0.5% in June, down from 1.2% in May.
