North Macedonia Industrial Output Growth Eases in July

North Macedonia’s industrial production increased 1.3% year-on-year in July 2026, slowing sharply from 6.5% in the previous month.

Output growth eased in manufacturing (3.4% vs 7.9% in June), particularly for food products, textiles, wearing apparel, and other transport equipment, while declines deepened in mining and quarrying (-5.9% vs -3.8%) and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (-19.5% vs -8.2%).

By industrial grouping, production fell for capital goods (-2.9% vs 8.6%) and durable consumer goods (-9.9% vs 8.6%), while the decline in energy deepened (-22.2% vs -11.1%).

Output of intermediate goods excluding energy also slowed (9.2% vs 11.7%).

In contrast, output of non-durable consumer goods rose faster (3.1% vs 2.0%).

In the January-July period, industrial output increased 0.9% from the corresponding period a year earlier.

North Macedonia’s industrial production increased 6.5% year-on-year in June 2026, rebounding from a 2.0% decline in May. Manufacturing output returned to growth (7.9% vs. -2.6% in May). In contrast, mining and quarrying output declined further (-3.8% vs. -3.6%), and ouput in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply fell (-8.2% vs 6.1%). By industrial grouping, growth accelerated for intermediate goods excluding energy (11.7% vs. 3.4%), while output rebounded for capital goods (8.6% vs. -3.3%), durable consumer goods (8.6% vs. -1.1%), and non-durable consumer goods (2.0% vs. -8.4%). Meanwhile, energy production contracted sharply (-11.1% vs. 6.5%). In the first half of 2026, industrial output rose 0.9% compared with the corresponding period a year earlier.

North Macedonia's industrial production fell 2.0% year-on-year in May 2026, reversing a 7.6% increase in April. The decline was driven by mining and quarrying, which fell 3.6% after a 4.3% rise, and manufacturing, which contracted 2.6% following a 6.8% increase. Meanwhile, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply remained resilient, rising 6.1%, though easing from 22.6%. By industrial grouping, output growth slowed for energy (6.5% vs 17.2%) and intermediate goods excluding energy (3.4% vs 14.1%). Capital goods (-3.3% vs 1.5%) and non-durable consumer goods (-8.4% vs -5.5%) moved deeper into contraction, while the decline in durable consumer goods eased to 1.1% from 4.9%.
