Hungary Producer Prices Fall to 22-Month Low

Hungary’s producer prices fell by 3.4% year-on-year in December 2025, following a 2.7% decline in the previous month.

This marked the second straight month of producer deflation and the lowest reading since February 2024, as costs dropped further for non-domestic output (-4.1% vs -3.1% in November) and domestic output (-1.9% vs -1.8%).

Among sectors, prices also continued to decline in manufacturing (-3.3% vs -1.9%) and mining and quarrying industry (-5.3% vs -3.8%).

On the other hand, costs held steady for water collection, treatment, and supply (3.7%), while prices fell at a softer pace in electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (-4.0% vs -5.6%).

On a monthly basis, producer prices decreased by 0.4% in December, following a 0.3% drop in the preceding period.

Producer prices in Hungary dropped by 3.3% year-on-year in February 2026, slipping further from a 2.9% fall in the previous month. This marked the fourth consecutive month of decline in producer prices, driven by faster decreases in costs for both non-domestic output (-3.3% vs -2.9% in January) and domestic sales (-3.1% vs -2.8%). Among sectors, prices continued to decline for mining and quarrying (-5% vs -5.3%) and electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (-2% vs -4%), while deflation remained steady for manufacturing (at -3.3%). Meanwhile, costs increased further for water collection, treatment, and supply (5.6% vs 3.7%). On a monthly basis, producer prices rose by 0.9% in February, rebounding from a 0.4% fall in the preceding period.

Hungary’s producer prices fell by 2.9% year-on-year in January 2026, easing from a 3.4% drop in the previous month. Deflation softened for non-domestic output (-2.9% vs -4.1% in December 2025), while prices contracted more sharply for domestic output (-2.8% vs -1.9%). Among sectors, price increases were recorded in water collection, treatment, and supply (5.6% vs 3.7%), while costs declined at a slower pace for electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (-2% vs -4%) and mining and quarrying (-5% vs -5.3%). Meanwhile, prices in the manufacturing sector remained unchanged at -3.3%, weighed down by lower costs in the manufacture of vehicles (-4.9% vs -4.3%), chemical and chemical products (-7.8% vs -6.1%), and coke production and petroleum processing (-19.5% vs -15.5%). On a monthly basis, producer prices grew by 0.9% in January, rebounding from a -0.4% fall in the preceding period.
