Hungary’s trade surplus narrowed sharply to EUR 104 million in April 2026 from EUR 1,149 million in the corresponding month a year ago.
Imports jumped 16% year-on-year to EUR 13,074 million, driven by higher purchases of machinery and transport equipment and processed products.
Meanwhile, exports rose 6.4% to EUR 13,117 million in April, lifted by slowed declines in food, beverages, and tobacco, though partly offset by weaker exports of processed products, and machinery and transport equipment.
For the first four months of the year, the country’s trade surplus fell to EUR 2,674 million from 4,620 million in the same period last year.
