Greece Inflation Rate Rise the Most in 3 Years

The annual inflation rate in Greece accelerated to 3.9% in March 2026 from 2.7% in the previous month.

This marked the highest reading since March 2023, driven largely by higher prices in housing utilities (5.7% vs 2.6%), transportation (8.1% vs 1%), and health (1.4% vs 0.5%).

At the same time, costs for alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose to 0.9% after stagnating, while deflation eased for information and communication (-2.3% vs. -2.4%) and miscellaneous goods and services (-0.4% vs. -0.6%).

On the other hand, prices decreased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.5% vs 5.2%), clothing and footwear (2.1% vs 10.1%), and restaurants and hotels (6.1% vs 6.5%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices jumped by 2.6% in March, following a 0.1% increase in the preceding period.

Meanwhile, the EU-harmonised annual inflation rate picked up to 3.4%, the highest reading since July 2025, and up from 3.1% previously.

The annual inflation rate in Greece accelerated to 2.7% in February 2026 from 2.5% in January, marking the highest reading since last August. Inflation mainly accelerated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.2% vs 4.5%) and housing and utilities (2.6% vs 2.1%). Price growth also picked up for clothing and footwear (10.1% vs 8.0%), health (0.5% vs 0.4%), and transport (1.0% vs 0.9%). In contrast, costs rose at a softer pace for recreation, sport and culture (1.5% vs 2.0%) and restaurants and accommodation services (6.5% vs 6.8%), while they stalled for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.0% vs 2.0%) and furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (0.0% vs -0.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.1%, rebounding from a 0.8% decline in January. Meanwhile, the EU-harmonized annual inflation rate picked up to 3.1%, the highest reading since last August, and up from 2.9% previously.

Greece Inflation Eases Slightly in January
The annual inflation rate in Greece edged down to 2.5% in January 2026 from a four-month high of 2.6% in December. Price growth slowed in housing and utilities (2.1% vs 2.8% in December), transport (0.9% vs 1.7%), and restaurants and accommodation services (6.8% vs 6.9%). Decreases were also observed in prices of furnishings, household equipment and maintenance (-0.5% vs 0.5%), miscellaneous goods and services (-0.7% vs 0.6%), and communication (-1.6% vs 0.3%). In contrast, inflation accelerated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.5% vs 3.6%), clothing and footwear (8.0% vs 1.8%), recreation and culture (2.0% vs 1.0%), while remained steady for education (at 2.8%) and health (at 0.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.8% in January, the first decline in six months, following a 0.3% rise in December.
