Greece Inflation Eases Slightly in January

The annual inflation rate in Greece edged down to 2.5% in January 2026 from a four-month high of 2.6% in December.

Price growth slowed in housing and utilities (2.1% vs 2.8% in December), transport (0.9% vs 1.7%), and restaurants and accommodation services (6.8% vs 6.9%).

Decreases were also observed in prices of furnishings, household equipment and maintenance (-0.5% vs 0.5%), miscellaneous goods and services (-0.7% vs 0.6%), and communication (-1.6% vs 0.3%).

In contrast, inflation accelerated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.5% vs 3.6%), clothing and footwear (8.0% vs 1.8%), recreation and culture (2.0% vs 1.0%), while remained steady for education (at 2.8%) and health (at 0.4%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.8% in January, the first decline in six months, following a 0.3% rise in December.

The annual inflation rate in Greece rose to 2.6% in December 2025 from 2.4% in the previous month. This marked the highest rate since August, mainly driven by a faster price increase for food and non-alcoholic beverages, accelerating to a twenty-month high of 3.6% from 2.7% in November. Additionally, inflation increased further clothing and footwear (1.8% vs 1.3%), transport (1.7% vs 0.7%), and recreation and culture (1% vs 0.7%), while it remained steady for household equipment (at 0.5%), education (at 2.8%), and miscellaneous goods and services (at 0.6%). On the other hand, price growth softened for housing (2.8% vs 3.7%), health (0.4% vs 0.6%), and communication (0.3% vs 0.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices grew by 0.3% in December, following a 0.1% gain in the preceding period.

The annual inflation rate in Greece rose to 2.4% in November 2025, from 2% in the previous month. This marked the highest since August, mainly driven by higher costs of food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.7% vs 2.3% in October), housing (3.7% vs 1.4%), and hotels, cafes, and restaurants (7.4% vs 6.5%). Additionally, inflation remained steady for health (at 0.6%), transport (at 0.7%), and education (at 2.8%). On the other hand, price growth softened for clothing and footwear (1.3% vs 1.9%), durable goods, household appliances and services (0.5% vs 0.7%), and communication (0.5% vs 0.8%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.1% in November, the same pace as in the preceding period.
