Georgia Inflation Eases to 4-Month Low

Georgia's annual inflation rate eased to 5.5% in July 2025, the lowest level in four months, from 5.8% in June. The main downward pressure came from softer price increases for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.9% vs 5.6% in June) and transport (14.2% vs 16.5%). Price growth also slowed for restaurants and hotels (7.9% vs 8.4%) and clothing and footwear (1.1% vs 2.1%), while remaining unchanged for health (4.7%) and education (2.4%). Meanwhile, prices continued to decline for furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-2.4% vs -2.2%) and communication (-6.3% vs -6.4%). In contrast, inflation rose for housing and utilities (8.3% vs 7.2%), recreation and culture (1.0% vs 0.9%), miscellaneous goods and services (7.6% vs 7.3%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.6% vs 5.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased by 0.4% in July, after rising 0.1% in June and marking the first monthly fall since last December.

Georgia's annual inflation rate edged up to 5.8% in June 2026 from 5.7% in the previous month. Price growth accelerated across major categories, including food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.6% vs 5.2% in May), housing and utilities (7.2% vs 7.0%), and transport (16.5% vs 15.1%). Overall inflation was also influenced by a rebound in recreation and culture (0.9% vs -0.1%) and stronger increases in restaurant and hotel costs (8.4% vs 7.6%), while costs for education remained unchanged at 2.4%. Meanwhile, price pressures eased for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.4% vs 7.2%), clothing and footwear (2.1% vs 3.0%), health (4.7% vs 5.1%), and miscellaneous goods and services (7.3% vs 8.0%). In addition, deflation deepened for furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (-2.2% vs -1.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.1% in June, slowing from 0.3% in May and marking the weakest monthly increase since December 2025.

Despite the moderation in the headline rate, price growth accelerated in transport (15.1% vs. 10.3% in April), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.2% vs. 6.5%), and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (7.0% vs. 6.5%). Inflation also edged higher for clothing and footwear (3.0% vs. 2.9%), health (5.1% vs. 4.9%), and restaurants and hotels (7.6% vs. 7.5%), while education costs rose at a steady pace of 2.4%. Meanwhile, inflation moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.2% vs. 7.5%) and miscellaneous goods and services (8.0% vs. 9.0%). Deflation persisted in furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-1.3% vs. -2.4%), communication (-6.4% vs. -4.0%), and recreation and culture (-0.1% vs. -0.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices eased 0.3% in May, from a 1.7% increase in the preceding period.
