Producer prices in Georgia rose by 9 percent year-on-year in April of 2017, after an upwardly 9.6 percent increase in the preceding month. It was the sixth straight month of rise, mainly boosted by an increase in prices of mining and quarrying (14.4 percent from 12.6 percent in March); electricity, gas and water (9.4 percent from 10.6 percent), and manufacturing (8.6 percent from 8.6 percent), namely basic metals and fabricated metal products (32.1 percent from 38.4 percent), food, beverages and tobacco products (8.3 percent from 7.8 percent), and rubber and plastic products (6.5 percent from 12.70 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices went down 1.3 percent, compared to an upwardly revised 1 percent rise in the prior month

It was the smallest trade deficit since January 2017, as export rose 28.1 percent to USD 211.6 million while imports went up 6.3 percent to USD 591.6 million. Considering January to April 2017, the deficit was recorded a USD 1.15 billion, as exports went up 29.9 percent to USD 788.1 million while imports increased by 12.7 percent to USD 2.3 billion.
