Georgia Current Account Deficit Narrows in Q2

Georgia’s current account deficit narrowed sharply to USD 272.8 million in the second quarter of 2025 from USD 676.1 million in the same period last year, marking the smallest shortfall since the third quarter of 2024.

The improvement in the trade deficit was mainly driven by a smaller goods trade deficit, which fell to USD 1,610.7 million from USD 1,814.4 million.

Meanwhile, the services surplus rose to USD 1,080.5 million from USD 949.5 million.

The primary income shortfall eased to USD 608.7 million from USD 657.6 million, while the secondary income surplus expanded to USD 866.1 million from USD 846.5 million.

Georgia Current Account Gap Widens to Highest Since 2016
Georgia’s current account deficit widened to USD 658.91 million in Q1 2025 from USD 318.31 million in the same period last year, marking the largest shortfall since Q4 2016. The deterioration was mainly driven by a bigger goods trade deficit, which rose to USD 1,739.08 million from USD 1,513.38 million. The services surplus increased to USD 806.41 million from USD 713.12 million. Meanwhile, the primary income gap widened to USD 569.53 million from USD 392.87 million, and the secondary income surplus edged down to USD 843.30 million from USD 874.83 million.
