Egypt Inflation Rate Lowest Since 2022

The annual urban inflation rate in Egypt slowed for the third consecutive month to 24% in January 2025 from 24.1% in December 2024, but above market expectations of 23%.
This marked the lowest reading since December 2022, as prices moderated for housing and utilities (14.2% vs 17.1% in December), transport (35.9% vs 37.9%), furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (21.6% vs 21.9%), communications (13% vs 26.3%), recreation and culture (46.2% vs 46.5%), restaurants and hotels (31.6% vs 32.1%), and miscellaneous goods and services (19.8% vs 20.4%).
Meanwhile, prices increased at a faster pace for food and non-alcoholic beverages (20.8% vs 20.3%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (28.5% vs 26.4%), and clothing and footwear (26.1% vs 25.8%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 1.5% in January 2025 from 0.2% in December, marking its highest level since September.
