Belarus Industrial Growth Edges Higher

Belarus’ industrial production edged up 0.2% year-on-year in the first eight months of 2026, following a 0.1% increase in the first seven months. Growth was supported by a 7.5% increase in electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air-conditioning supply, while mining and quarrying output rose 2.7%. Water supply, waste management and remediation activities increased 1.6%. However, manufacturing output contracted 1%, limiting gains in other sectors and remaining in contraction for more than a year.

Belarus’ industrial production edged up 0.1% year-on-year in the first seven months of 2026, improving from a 0.7% decline in the first half of the year and returning to positive growth after remaining in contraction for the last twelve months. Growth was supported by a 7.9% increase in electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air-conditioning supply, while mining and quarrying output rose 2.7%. Water supply, waste management and remediation activities also recorded modest growth of 1.8%. However, manufacturing output contracted 1.2%, offsetting gains across other sectors and remaining in contraction for a year.

Industrial production in Belarus declined 0.7% year-on-year to BYN 107.2 billion in the first half of 2026, following a 1.4% decrease in the January–May period. The contraction was driven by a 2.1% decline in manufacturing output to BYN 94.0 billion. In contrast, mining and quarrying (2.6%), electricity, gas, steam, hot water, and air conditioning supply (7.9%), and water supply, waste collection, treatment and disposal, and pollution remediation activities (1.4%) all expanded. By region, output declined in Mogilev (-4.5%), Grodno (-4.0%), Minsk City (-3.9%), and Vitebsk (-0.8%), while Brest (5.5%), the Minsk Region (2.4%), and Gomel (0.5%) recorded growth.
