Azerbaijan Consumer Prices Rebound in August

Consumer prices in Azerbaijan rose by 0.2% month-over-month in August 2026, rebounding from a 0.1% fall in the previous month. The recovery was largely driven by higher costs of food products, which increased by 0.3% after declining 0.4% in July, particularly for meat and fish goods. Non-food prices also rose (0.1% vs 0%), as higher costs of wallpaper, bricks, plasterboard, electrical equipment, personal hygiene products and jewelry outweighed lower prices of summer clothing, detergents and cleaning products, personal computers and tablets. Meanwhile, inflation remained steady for services at 0.2%, driven by increased prices for leisure tours and international passenger air transport services. On an annual basis, consumer prices rose by 5.7% in August, following a 5.8% gain in the preceding period.

Azerbaijan’s consumer prices fell 0.1% month-on-month in July 2026, following a sharper 0.3% decline in June. The slower decline was reflected in food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices, which fell 0.4% after decreasing 0.7% in the previous month. Food prices alone declined 0.4%, compared with a 0.8% drop in June, mainly due to lower prices for vegetables and fruit, while egg prices increased. Meanwhile, non-food prices were unchanged after rising 0.1% in June, as higher prices for paint, passenger car spare parts and engine oils were offset by lower jewelry prices. Prices for paid services rose 0.3%, following a 0.1% rise in June, driven by higher apartment rents, domestic leisure tours and catering services. On an annual basis, consumer prices rose by 5.8% in July, the same pace as in the preceding period and still the highest reading since October last year.

Meanwhile, non-food prices rose 0.1% for a second consecutive month, supported by higher prices for furniture, motor oil, passenger cars, and mobile phones, although cheaper household appliances partly offset these increases. Services prices also edged up 0.1%, driven by higher costs for international air transport and domestic tour packages. On an annual basis, inflation accelerated to 5.8% in June from 5.6% in May, reaching its highest level in eight months.
