Uruguay Inflation Edges Higher in August

Uruguay’s annual inflation rate edged up to 4.55% in August 2026 from 4.27% in June.
The largest price increases were recorded in transportation (7.06%), education services (7.02%), restaurants and accommodation services (6.78%), and health (6.52%).
Housing-related costs also rose significantly, by 5.13%.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased 3.14%, while alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics rose 2.98%.
In contrast, clothing and footwear fell 6.21%, making it the only category to record deflation.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.24%, bringing year-to-date inflation to 3.65%.
