Uruguay Inflation Rises Slightly in July

Uruguay’s annual inflation rate edged up to 4.27% in July 2026 from 4.25% in June.

The strongest pressures were recorded in education (6.93%), followed by restaurants and hotels (6.72%), transport (5.76%), healthcare (5.59%), personal care and social protection (5.12%), housing and utilities (5.03%), recreation, sport and culture (4.56%), and information and communication (4.29%).

Food prices increased 2.95%, while clothing and footwear remained the only major category in deflation, with prices falling 5.83%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.07%, bringing year-to-date inflation to 3.40%.

Uruguay’s annual inflation rate rose to 4.25% in June 2026 from 3.77% in the prior month. The increase was driven by rises in transport costs (7.6%), education (6.8%), restaurants and hotels (6.6%), healthcare (6%), personal care and social protection (5.6%), utilities (4.9%), and information and communication (4.3%). Food costs were 2.6% higher. In contrast, prices of clothing and footwear prices fell 5.2%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4%.

Uruguay CPI Picks Up in May
Uruguay’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 3.77% in May 2026 from 3.16% in April. The increase was driven by higher prices for education (6.91%), restaurants and hotels (6.85%), healthcare (6.15%), housing and utilities (5.02%), and personal care and social protection (4.89%). Transport costs rose 4.47%, while food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased 2.21%. In contrast, clothing and footwear prices fell 4.88% from a year earlier. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.70% in May, accelerating from a 0.54% increase in the previous month.
