Thailand Stocks Ease to 3-Week Low

2026-10-21 04:58 By Farida Husna 1 min. read

Thailand’s SET50 Index extended losses for a third session by noon Wednesday, slipping toward 1,038 and touching its lowest level since early October.

Sentiment weakened after September consumer confidence fell from a six-month high, while headline inflation hit a five-month peak of 2.82%.

Still, gains in U.S.

stock futures helped limit the downside as markets assessed the latest corporate earnings releases.

Locally, Bangkok last week approved a THB 50 billion housing loan program aimed at helping low- and middle-income households access homeownership.

The scheme is also designed to support economic activity, with authorities estimating it could generate up to THB 125 billion in property-related output.

Sector-wise, industrial services, energy, and transport stocks led the decline, outweighing gains in communications, consumer durables, and financials.

Among the laggards, Delta Electronics fell 4.1%, followed by Kiatnakin Phatra Bank (-2.6%), Banpu (-1.4%), and Bangkok Bank (-1.1%).

Thailand Shares Hold at 6-1/2-Year Peak
Thailand’s SET50 Index was notably higher in Thursday morning trade, hovering near 1,078 and extending the upswing that began last week. The benchmark remained at its highest levels since early 2020, boosted by government support measures that mix short-term cushioning such as monetary easing, SME relief, and household debt management, with longer-term transformation efforts. A positive handover from Wall Street overnight also added momentum following softer inflation data that tempered expectations of imminent Fed tightening. In Asia, weak Q2 GDP figures in China stirred hopes of fresh stimulus ahead of the Politburo’s late-July meeting. However, gains were constrained by concerns over the impact of higher oil prices on cost pressures after Thailand's headline inflation rose for the third month in June, reversing a year of deflation. Standout movers included Bangchak Corp. (5%), Global Power Synergy (3.0%), Berli Jucker (1.3%), and Cal-Comp Electronics (1.1%).
