Senegal Inflation Eases to Lowest Since May 2025

Senegal’s annual inflation rate eased to 0.3% in July 2026 from 0.4% in June, the lowest since May 2025.

The slowdown was mainly driven by a sharper decline in food prices, which fell 0.4% after a 0.2% drop, and housing and utilities, down 0.8% following a 0.6% decrease.

Inflation also eased for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (11.8% vs 12%) and furnishings (0.7% vs 0.8%).

Meanwhile, inflation remained at 0.8% for recreation, sports and culture, 1% for education, 2.2% for restaurants and hotels, and 0.6% for financial services.

In contrast, deflation eased for transports, to 0.1% from 0.6%, while inflation accelerated for health (1.8% vs 1.6%) and clothing and footwear (1.2% vs 1.1%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1%, marking the highest level since September 2025, after remaining unchanged in the prior month.

Senegal Inflation Rate at 5-Month Low of 0.4%
The annual inflation rate in Senegal slowed to 0.4% in June 2026 from 1.3% in May, marking the softest increase since January. The moderation was driven by a decline in food and non-alcoholic beverage prices, the largest component of the CPI basket, which fell for the first time in five months (-0.2% vs 1.0% in May). Prices also declined for housing and utilities (-0.6% vs 1.9%) and transport (-0.6% vs 0.9%). These declines were partially offset by stronger price increases for alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (12.0% vs 10.9%), health (1.6% vs 1.3%), recreation and culture (0.8% vs 1.1%), and clothing and footwear (1.1% vs 1.4%). On a monthly basis, the CPI was unchanged after rising 0.2% in the previous month.

Senegal Inflation Rate Eases to 1.3% in May
The annual inflation rate in Senegal edged down to 1.3% in May 2026 from 1.4% in each of the prior two months. Price-growth moderated primarily for alcoholic beverages, tobacco & narcotics (10.9% vs 11.5% in April); food & non-alcoholic beverages (1% vs 1.7%); health (1.3% vs 1.6%) and recreation & culture (1.1% vs 1.4%). Meanwhile, prices rose faster for some CPI items, including clothing and footwear(1.4% vs 0.8%), transport (0.9% vs 0.6%), while rebounding for housing & utilities (1.9% vs -0.4%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.2%, after a 0.5% decrease in the previous month.
