Senegal’s annual inflation rate slowed for the first time in three months to 1.9% in October 2025, down from 2.6% in September, which had marked the highest level since March 2024.
It was also the lowest rate since July, mainly reflecting a moderation in food prices, which rose 3.2%, down from 4.9% in September, marking the softest increase in three months.
Price growth also slowed for clothing and footwear (0.6% vs 0.7%), while inflation accelerated for transport (2.9% vs 2.5%), housing and utilities (1.3% vs 1.0%), healthcare (2.4% vs 2.1%), restaurants (2.7% vs 2.2%), furnishings (3.2% vs 2.5%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (11.4% vs 8.4%).
In contrast, prices in the information and communication sector continued to decline (-1.6% vs -3.2%).
Excluding energy and fresh products, the core index climbed 4.6% yoy, easing from a 4.8% rise in September.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.2% in October, the first drop in six months, reversing a 1.3% increase in September.
