Senegal Inflation Eases to 2.8% in December

Senegal’s annual inflation rate slowed slightly to 2.8% in December 2025, down from November’s 20-month high of 2.9%.

The deceleration came as food inflation eased to 4.5% from 5.0% in November, which had marked the fastest growth since March 2024.

Inflation also moderated in transport (1.4% vs 2.9% in November), furnishings (2.5% vs 3.3%), and healthcare (1.5% vs 2.3%), while remaining steady for clothing and footwear (0.6%) and restaurants (3.0%).

Meanwhile, inflation accelerated in housing and utilities (1.2% vs 1.0%) as well as alcoholic beverages and tobacco (17.2% vs 15.9%).

Conversely, prices in the information and communication sector continued to decline (-1.7% vs -3.6%).

Excluding energy and fresh products, the core index advanced 4.1% yoy, easing from a 4.7% rise in November.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.9% in December, following a 0.1% drop in November, marking the steepest monthly decline in 13 months.

It was the highest inflation rate since March 2024, mainly reflecting faster rises in food prices, which increased 5.0%, up from 3.2% in October and marking the fastest growth since March 2024. Inflation also accelerated for restaurants (3.0% vs 2.7%), furnishings (3.3% vs 3.2%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (15.9% vs 11.4%). Meanwhile, inflation eased for housing and utilities (1.0% vs 1.3%) and healthcare (2.3% vs 2.4%), while remaining steady for clothing and footwear (at 0.6%) and transport (at 2.9%). Conversely, prices in the information and communication sector continued to decline (-3.6% vs -1.6%). Excluding energy and fresh products, the core index increased 4.7% yoy, accelerating slightly from a 4.6% rise in October. On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged down 0.1% in November, following a 0.2% drop in October.

Senegal Inflation Rate at 3-Month Low of 1.9%
Senegal’s annual inflation rate slowed for the first time in three months to 1.9% in October 2025, down from 2.6% in September, which had marked the highest level since March 2024. It was also the lowest rate since July, mainly reflecting a moderation in food prices, which rose 3.2%, down from 4.9% in September, marking the softest increase in three months. Price growth also slowed for clothing and footwear (0.6% vs 0.7%), while inflation accelerated for transport (2.9% vs 2.5%), housing and utilities (1.3% vs 1.0%), healthcare (2.4% vs 2.1%), restaurants (2.7% vs 2.2%), furnishings (3.2% vs 2.5%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (11.4% vs 8.4%). In contrast, prices in the information and communication sector continued to decline (-1.6% vs -3.2%). Excluding energy and fresh products, the core index climbed 4.6% yoy, easing from a 4.8% rise in September. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.2% in October, the first drop in six months, reversing a 1.3% increase in September.
