Senegal Industrial Output Growth Soars to Near 4-Year High

Senegal's industrial production excluding cotton ginning increased by 29.3% compared to the same period in 2024, marking the strongest rise since April 2021.

This growth was largely driven by a 61.1% surge in extractive industries, primarily due to the start of oil extraction in Senegal.

Additionally, production in environmental industries rose by 27.2%, while manufacturing industries saw an 11.5% increase, further contributing to the overall industrial production growth during this period.

On a monthly basis, industrial output rose by 16.2%.

Senegal Industrial Growth Remains Robust
Industrial production in Senegal rose by 17.2% year-on-year in June 2025, maintaining double-digit growth for the sixth month running. The strong performance was largely driven by a 71.4% surge in extractive industries, mainly due to the inclusion of the start of oil extraction in Senegal, and to a lesser extent, by growth in electricity, gas, and water production (+6.4%) as well as environmental industries (+1.6%). However, manufacturing industries saw a decline of 6.5% during the period under review. Considering the first half of 2025, industrial production grew by 21.5% compared to the same period in 2024, also boosted by hydrocarbon extraction (+68.1%).

Senegal Industrial Output Growth Accelerates in April
Senegal’s industrial production, excluding cotton ginning, surged by 24.9% year-on-year in April 2025, accelerating from a 19.7% increase in the previous month. This marked the strongest growth in three months, largely driven by a sharp rise in output from extractive industries (+82.7%) and, to a lesser extent, manufacturing industries (+4.1%). Within manufacturing, production saw significant increases in refined petroleum and coking products (+260.5%), paper, cardboard, printing, and reproduction of records (+140.5%), as well as chemical, pharmaceutical, rubber, and plastic products (+132.5%). For the first four months of the year, industrial activity was up 23.5% compared to the same period last year.
