Senegal GDP Growth Accelerates in Q2

The economy of Senegal advanced by 3.1% year-on-year in Q2 2026, the most since Q2 2025, following a 4.3% growth in the previous period.

The expansion was mainly driven by strong performance in the tertiary (6.0%), secondary (5.1%), and primary (1.5%) sectors, as well as net taxes (18.1%).

Excluding hydrocarbons, GDP improved by 6.4%.

From a demand perspective, economic growth was was primarily driven by increases in gross fixed capital formation (8.0%) and final consumption (5.5%).

However, exports of goods and services declined by 2.7% while imports increased by 4.8%.

On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the GDP rose by 0.1%.

The economy of Senegal advanced by 5.8% year-on-year in Q1 2026, the most since Q2 2025, following a 4.2% growth in the previous period. The expansion was mainly driven by strong performance in the secondary sector (+8.6%), followed by the primary sector (+5.7%), the tertiary sector (+5.2%), and, to a lesser extent, net taxes on goods and services (+1.6%). Excluding hydrocarbons, GDP rose by 4.7%. From a demand perspective, growth was mainly supported by higher exports (+8.2%) and final consumption (+4.9%). However, gross fixed capital formation declined by 7.5%. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the GDP rose by 1.2%.

Senegal GDP Expands Faster in Q4
The economy of Senegal grew by 4.2% year-on-year in Q4 2025, accelerating from a downwardly revised 3.7% rise in the previous period. The expansion was primarily driven by robust activity in the primary sector (+8.6%) and secondary sector (+5.1%), alongside the tertiary sector (2.7%). Net product taxes, after subsidies, also rose 2.8% during the quarter. From the demand perspective, the pickup in economic activity was supported by higher exports of goods and services (+29.7%), increased gross fixed capital formation (+7.2%), and growth in final consumption (+3.4%).On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the GDP advanced by 3.1%. The Senegalese GDP expanded by 6.7% in 2025, the most since 2018, following a downwardly revised 6.5% rise in 2024.
