Meantime, higher output charges inflation eased since May, with some firms linking a fall in selling prices to promotional activity.

Saudi Arabia's gross domestic product increased 1.15 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2018, recovering from a 1.18 percent decline in the previous period. The reading marked the first expansion since the second quarter 2016, as output rebounded for mining and quarrying (0.75 percent vs -4.77 percent in Q4), namely crude and natural gas (0.69 percent vs -4.85 percent) while production of other rose faster (6.33 percent vs 4.50 percent). Also, output expanded at a faster pace for: electricity, gas, and water (1.14 percent vs 0.45 percent in Q4); manufacturing (3.27 percent vs 0.82 percent), and finance, insurance, real estate and business services (2.09 percent vs 0.82 percent ). In addition, output contracted less for construction (-2.43 percent vs -3.53 percent).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched down 0.4 percent, after decreasing 0.2 percent in April.
