Namibia Inflation Rate Ebbs to 2021-Lows

The annual inflation rate in Namibia edged down to 2.9% in January 2026, the lowest level since February 2021, from 3.2% in December. This marked the third consecutive month of slowing inflation, mainly on account of food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.9% vs 2.6% in December); education (2.4% vs 4.3%); hotels, cafes & restaurants (3.6% vs 4.2%); recreation & culture (3.7% vs 4.3%) and miscellaneous goods & services (1.5% vs 2.8%). In the meantime, communication prices decreased 1.4%, after a 0.4% rise in the month before. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.8%, accelerating from a 0.1% increase in the prior month.

The annual inflation rate in Namibia eased for the second month to 3.2% in December 2025, the softest since August, compared to November's 3.4%. Prices continued to slow down for some CPI categories, notably food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.6% vs 3.9% in November); hotels, cafes & restaurants (4.2% vs 4.8%) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.7% vs 3.9%). On the other hand, prices accelerated mostly for housing & utilities (4.5% vs 4.1%) and recreation & culture (4.3% vs 3.8%). On a monthly basis, the CPI edged up 0.1% in December, after being flat in the previous month.

The annual inflation rate in Namibia eased to 3.4% in November 2025 from a four-month high of 3.6% in the prior month. Prices slowed down for some CPI categories, including food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.9% vs 4.6% in October), notably bread & cereals (0.5% vs 2.9%) and vegetables (2.8% vs 5.7%); alcoholic beverages & to bacco (3.9% vs 4.6%); hotels, cafes & restaurants (4.8% vs 5%) and recreation & culture (3.8% vs 4%), among others. Meanwhile, inflation remained steady for education (at 4.3%) and housing & utilities (at 4.1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat in November, after a 0.5% increase in the prior month.
