Morocco Inflation Rate at 12-Month High of 2%

The annual inflation rate in Morocco increased to 2.0% in January 2025 from 0.7% in the previous month.

It marked the highest inflation rate since January 2024, with food and non-alcoholic beverage prices rising the most in a year (3.4% vs 0.6% in December 2024).

Also, inflation accelerated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.0% vs 2.4%), while it remained stable for housing and utilities (at 3.6%), furniture, household items, and routine household maintenance (at 0.3%), and education (at 2.3%).

Meanwhile, inflation moderated for clothing and footwear (0.9% vs 1.3%), miscellaneous goods and services (2.0% vs 2.2%), recreation and culture (0.2% vs 0.3%), and restaurants and hotels (3.5% vs 3.8%).

In the meantime, communication prices were flat after edging up 0.1% in December.

Additionally, deflation eased for transport (-2.7% vs. -3.2%).

Monthly, consumer prices rose 0.8% in January, the first increase in five months, rebounding from a 0.2% fall in the previous month.

Morocco Inflation Rate Quickens to Over 1-Year High in April
Morocco's annual inflation rate picked up to 1.7% in April 2026 from 0.9% in the prior month, marking the highest level since February 2025. Main upward pressure came from prices of transportation (8.4% vs 0.8% in March), as supply disruptions linked to the ongoing Iran war pushed fuel costs higher. Solid price increases were also observed for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.8% vs 3.7%); miscellaneous goods & services (3.7% vs 3.5%); education (2.1% vs 2.1%) and restaurants & hotels (2.1% vs 2%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.4%, following a 1.2% increase the month before.

Morocco CPI Rises in March
Consumer prices in Morocco rose by 0.9% year-on-year in March 2026, after a 0.6% decrease in February, bringing an end to four consecutive months of deflation. This was largely driven by a rebound in prices of transportation (0.8% vs -2.7% in February) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.5% vs -2.2%). Additional upward pressure stemmed from prices of alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.7% vs 3.7%); clothing & footwear (1% vs 0.9%); miscellaneous goods & services (3.5% vs 3.8%); restaurants & hotels (2% vs 2.1%) and education (2.1% vs 2.1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices surged by 1.2%, the sharpest increase since April 2023, up from a 0.5% rise in February, mainly on account of transportation (3%) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.9%).

Morocco Sees Consumer Deflation for 4th Month
The consumer price index in Morocco fell by 0.6% year-on-year in February 2026, after a 0.8% decrease in January, marking the fourth consecutive month of deflation. Prices continued to decline for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-2.2% vs -2.4% in January); transportation (-2.7% vs -2.9%); communication (-0.4% vs -0.4%) and recreation & culture (-0.2% vs -0.4%). Conversely, the biggest increases were seen for miscellaneous goods & services (3.8%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.7%); restaurants & hotels (2.1%) and education (2.1%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.5% in February, following a 0.3% increase in the prior month.
