Mongolia’s MSE Top 20 Index traded around 66,500 on the final trading day of September, on track to gain about 26% since the end of June.
The gain puts Mongolia among the world’s best-performing stock markets this quarter, after the index repeatedly reached record highs.
The strong quarterly performance has been led by coal producer Tavantolgoi JSC, whose shares have climbed 87%, while banking and financial stocks have also contributed to the advance.
Stronger copper and coal exports, particularly to China, greater market liquidity and measures aimed at easing taxes and attracting foreign investment have further supported investor sentiment.
Intraday, the index was mixed, with United Investment gaining 3.2%, Mandal Insurance 2.4%, APU 0.8% and Golomt Bank 0.6%, while Khan Bank fell 2.6%, Trade and Development Bank slipped 0.3% and Tavantolgoi was little changed.
