Malta Inflation at Near 3-Year Low

Malta’s annual inflation rate inched down to 2.1% in September 2024 from 2.4% in the previous month.

This marked the lowest reading since October 2021, as costs softened mainly for housing & utilities (1.4% vs 1.6% August), transport (2.4% vs 3.2%), and recreation & culture (1.5% vs 2%).

At the same time, deflation was seen in clothing & footwear (-2% vs -1.4%) and communication (-5.1% vs -5.1%).

Meanwhile, price growth remained steady for food & non-alcoholic beverages (at 3.5%) and health (at 3.2%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased by 1% in September, the first drop in eight months, following a 0.5% rise in August.
