Kazakhstan’s short-term economic indicator—which tracks monthly GDP growth—rose by 9.6% year-on-year in the period from January to August 2025, marking the fastest pace of expansion since records began in 2008 and well above the 4.4% growth seen a year earlier.
The strong performance was underpinned by robust gains in transport and storage (+21.5%), construction (+18.1%), wholesale and retail trade (+8.9%), and mining and industry (+7.6%).
Regionally, growth was led by Astana (+18.6%), the Turkestan Region (+15.8%), Shymkent (+15.0%), and North Kazakhstan (+14%).
In contrast, economic activity contracted in East Kazakhstan (-2.7%) and the Ulytau Region (-1.0%).
