Georgia GDP Growth Slows in August

Georgia’s economy expanded by 6.3% year-on-year in August 2026, marking the softest growth since April and slowing from an 8.0% growth in the previous month.

Economic activity was supported mainly by strong performances in manufacturing, information and communication, financial and insurance activities, real estate, trade, and transportation and storage.

In contrast, construction activity declined from a year earlier.

The average real GDP growth for the first eight months of the year stood at 7.6%.

External trade remained supportive, with exports rising 22.1% year-on-year to $5.42 billion, imports increasing 3.4% to $12.50 billion, and total merchandise trade turnover growing 8.4% to $17.93 billion.

Georgia’s economy expanded by 8.0% year-on-year in July 2026, following an 8.6% growth in the previous month. Economic activity was supported mainly by strong performances in manufacturing, information and communication, financial and insurance activities, mining and quarrying, and transportation and storage. In contrast, construction activity declined from a year earlier. The average real GDP growth for the first seven months of 2026, totaled to 7.9%. External trade remained supportive in January-July, with exports rising 21.6% year-on-year to $4.67 billion, while imports increasing 2.4% to $10.85 billion, lifting total merchandise trade turnover by 7.5% to $15.52 billion.

Georgia’s economy expanded by 8.6% year-on-year in June 2026, marking the fastest pace since March and accelerating from a 6.4% growth in the previous month. Economic activity remained supported by strong performances across several key sectors, with manufacturing, transportation and storage, construction, information and communication, and financial and insurance activities contributing the most to growth. In contrast, mining and quarrying, as well as the energy sector, contracted from a year earlier. In the second quarter of 2026, the economy expanded by an average of 7.5%, bringing average real GDP growth for the first six months of 2026 to 7.9%. External trade remained supportive in the January-June 2026 period, with exports rising 20.0% year-on-year to $3.88 billion, while imports increased 0.7% to $9.05 billion, lifting total merchandise trade turnover by 5.8% to $12.93 billion.
