Georgia Inflation Rate Rises in January

The annual inflation rate in Georgia rose to 4.8% in January 2026, following a six-month low of 4.0% in the previous month.

Prices increased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (10.6% vs 8.8% in December 2025), health (8.3% vs 7.0%), restaurants and hotels (8.1% vs 6.9%), miscellaneous goods and services (7.4% vs 5.1%), and education (2.2% vs 2.1%).

At the same time, deflation eased for furnishings, household equipment and maintenance (-0.6% vs -1.6%), transport (-0.3% vs -0.6%), and communication (-4.6% vs -4.7%).

On the other hand, cost growth moderated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.5% vs 4.4%), while it fell further for clothing and footwear (-1.8% vs 0%) and recreation and culture (-2.5% vs -1.6%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.2%, rebounding from a 0.2% drop in the preceding period and marking the highest reading in over three years.

Price growth slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (9.5% vs. 10.6% in January), health (5.9% vs. 8.3%), restaurants and hotels (7.2% vs. 8.1%), and education (2.1% vs. 2.2%). Deflation moderated in clothing and footwear (-0.2% vs. -1.8%) and recreation and culture (-2.1% vs. -2.5%), while remaining steady in communication (-4.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.2% in February, slowing from 1.2% in January.

The annual inflation rate in Georgia eased to 4% in December 2025 from 4.8% in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading since June as price growth slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (8.8% vs 10.3% in November), health (7% vs 8%), education (2.1% vs 2.3%), restaurants and hotels (6.9% vs 7.2%), and miscellaneous goods and services (5.1% vs 5.3%). At the same time, prices declined for housing utilities (-0.3% vs 0.3%) and transport (-0.6% vs 0.3%), while deflation deepened for communication (-4.7% vs -4%) and recreation and culture (-1.6% vs -1.5%). On the other hand, costs remained unchanged for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.4%), while prices stalled for clothing and footwear. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.2% in December, following a 0.4% growth in the preceding period.
