Dominican Inflation Eases in August

The annual inflation rate in the Dominican Republic eased to 5.13% in August 2026 from 5.47% in July.

The strongest price pressures were recorded in restaurants and hotels (7.96%), transport (7.36%), education (7.08%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.90%).

In contrast, prices fell for clothing and footwear (-1.08%) and communications (-1.76%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.38%, accelerating from a 0.19% increase in the previous month.

Year-to-date inflation reached 2.60%.

Meanwhile, annual core inflation eased to 4.76% from 4.96% in July.

The annual inflation rate in the Dominican Republic eased slightly to 5.47% in July 2026 from 5.67% in June. The strongest price pressures were recorded in restaurants and hotels (8.15%), transport (7.95%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (6.75%), education (6.52%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.1%). In contrast, prices fell for clothing and footwear (-1.29%) and communications (-1.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.19%, slowing from a 0.51% increase in June. Year-to-date inflation reached 2.21%, while core inflation stood at 4.96% year-on-year.

Dominican Republic Inflation Rate Rises to Three-Year High
The annual inflation rate in the Dominican Republic rose to 5.67% in June 2026 from 5.35% in the previous month, marking the highest reading since March 2023. The strongest price pressures were recorded in transport (8.37%), restaurants and hotels (8.03%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.01%). Education prices also rose at a faster pace than the overall inflation rate, increasing 6.64%. Costs also increased for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.47%), healthcare (4.94%), housing (2.47%), furniture and household equipment (2.17%), and recreation and culture (2.20%). Meanwhile, prices continued to decline for clothing and footwear (-1.15%) and communications (-0.80%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.51% in June, following a 0.31% increase in May.
