Tanzania Inflation Rate Holds at 4.3% in September

The annual inflation rate in Tanzania stood at 4.3% in September 2026, unchanged from August and staying at its highest level since April 2023.
Upward pressure came primarily from transportation (14.0% vs 13.8% in August); housing and utilities (2.5% vs 2.5%); furnishings and household equipment (2.6% vs 2.6%); education (3.2% vs 3.2%) and information and communication (1.5% vs 1.5%).
Meanwhile, price growth eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.9% vs 3.7%), while alcoholic beverages and tobacco inflation slowed to 1.1% from 1.5%.
Softer inflation was also recorded for clothing and footwear (1.7% vs 1.8%), health (1.4% vs 1.5%), recreation and culture (0.5% vs 0.7%) and restaurants and accommodation services (2.9% vs 3.0%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.1% in September, the same pace as in the previous month.
