Senegal Inflation Rate Hits 8-Month Top

The annual inflation rate in Senegal accelerated to 1.8% in January 2025 from 0.8% in the prior month, marking the highest reading since last May and representing the second straight month of increase.
Main upward pressures came from prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.0%), housing & utilities(1.1%), transport (0.9%), alcoholic beverages & tobacco (6.1%), furnishings & household equipment (2.5%), and restaurant and accommodation services (2.2%).
By contrast, information & communications fell by 7.4%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 1.1%, the first increase in three months, after a 0.8% fall in December.
It was also the highest monthly figure since August 2023.
The statistics agency said it has adopted 2023 as the new base year for its calculations, replacing the previous base year of 2014.
