Consumer prices in Palestine surged by 35.77% year-on-year in April 2025, marking the sharpest increase in four months and a steep rise from just 1.88% in March.
The spike was largely driven by soaring prices in the Gaza Strip, where inflation hit 91.61% amid ongoing Israeli attacks and the continued closure of commercial crossings for a second month, severely disrupting supply chains and weighing heavily on the national index.
The most significant price increases were seen in housing and utilities (up 175.84% vs. 62.9% in March) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (up 37.69% vs. 2.17%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices jumped 30.72% in April, with Gaza experiencing a 75.59% monthly surge, driven by rising costs for salt (195.35%), eggs (180.28%), other sugar and sugar substitutes (170.68%), dried vegetables (141.78%), gas (130.61%), potatoes (96.04%), and white flour (85.27%).
