Mozambique Inflation Rate Up to 4-Month High of 3.4%

The annual inflation rate in Mozambique rose for the second month to 3.37% in March 2026 from 3.20% in the prior month.

This marked the highest reading since last November, amid lingering effects of flooding that disrupted supply chains.

Prices increased faster primarily for food & non-alcoholic beverages (6.20% vs 5.83% in February); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.08% vs 2.97%) and restaurants & hotels (5.30% vs 4.95%).

At the same time, prices remained elevated for clothing & footwear (4.68% vs 4.80%).

By contrast, transportation costs continued to fall, though at a slower pace (-0.87% vs -1.52%).

On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.22%, after a 0.68% increase in the previous month.

Mozambique Inflation Rate Rises to 3.2% in February
The annual inflation rate in Mozambique inched up to 3.20% in February 2026 from an over one-year low of 3.04% in the prior month, partly reflecting the impact of disruptions caused by severe cyclones hitting the country since January. Upward pressure came primarily from prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (5.83% vs 5.72%); clothing & footwear (4.80% vs 3.81%); miscellaneous goods & services (4.27% vs 4.01%); housing & utilities (2.71% vs 1.68%) and furnishings & household equipment (1.77% vs 1.32%). On the other hand, prices continued to fall for transportation (-1.52% vs -1.72%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.68%, after a 1.26% increase in the previous month.

Mozambique Inflation Rate Slows to Over 1-Year Low
The annual inflation rate in Mozambique fell slightly to 3.04% in January 2026, the lowest since November 2024, from 3.23% in December, marking the fourth consecutive month of slowing price growth. Prices slowed down for some CPI items, notably food & non-alcoholic beverages (5.72% vs 6.64% in December); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.68% vs 3.51%); furnishings & household equipment (1.32% vs 3.27%) and health (2.72% vs 3.44%). Additionally, transportation costs continued to decrease (-1.72% vs -1.60%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 1.26% in January, after a 0.49% increase in the prior month.
